Finally made it to Frank Fat's downtown location. A group of us stopped by for dinner after a conference and they were able to quickly accommodate us. Everything is ordered family style, so we got 5-6 dishes for the six of us. It was just the right amount for everyone and we finished all the dishes. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. The staff were wonderful, from the hostess helping my friend get gum off his crutch to the server checking in the perfect amount. I also placed a separate order to go and it was done very quickly.

We loved the decor and ambience. We also appreciated the excellent, efficient, sweet and friendly service from Sherry. Lastly, we thoroughly enjoyed the fresh and delicious food. We recommend sharing the Combination Platter as an appetizer, and the Triple Crown Kung Pao entree. You also have to save room for both the chocolate cream and banana cream pies! If you find yourself in Sacramento in search of fantastic Chinese food, check out Frank Fat’s! You and your stomach will be happy you did!!

I had heard about Frank Fat's a number of times since moving to Sacramento and finally decided to check it out. After eating here, it's clear to me why it's a Sacramento institution. The food is delicious and pretty much exactly what was promised, upscale Chinese in a fancier setting. My one criticism is the interior/decorations look like it has been an institution for decades. But who really cares about the decor when the food is good?! Pretty much everything we had, aside from the Chinese chicken salad exceeded our expectations. Plenty of Chinese comfort food - but elevated. The service was solid. Still, what I'll be dreaming about and what will likely bring me back to Frank Fat's is the ridiculously good banana cream pie. Heaps of fresh banana, a buttery, flaky crust and perfectly, not too sweet cream. Hands down the best banana cream pie I've ever had.
